The Nubian Ibex
(capra nubiana)

The Nubian ibex is a desert-dwelling goat facing extinction threat. In the past we could find it in the mountainous areas over the whole Middle-East and Arabic Peninsula. Nowadays, in Jordan, few of them are preserved in the Wadi Mujib, Dana and Wadi Rum natural reserves. It is in average 65-75 cm tall at the shoulder, but males are ...

... much taller than females.  The average weight is about 50 kg. It is light beige with a lighter underbelly. It has long thin horns that extend up and then backwards and down.  It is a gregarious animal, but males are rather solitary or form small bands with few individuals and gather with the female herds for the breeding season.
